Course description
This spotlight course introduces learners to several essential text and date functions in Google Sheets that help clean, organize, and analyze spreadsheet data more effectively. Through ten lessons, participants will explore how to manipulate text strings, extract date-based insights, and streamline data formatting and validation. The course begins with text functions such as CONCAT, CONCATENATE, and TEXTJOIN, which allow users to combine values from multiple cells. Learners will then explore how to split text into columns and extract specific characters using LEFT, RIGHT, and MID. Additional lessons cover formatting text with UPPER, LOWER, and PROPER, and measuring string length with LEN. Participants will also learn how to clean data using tools like “Remove Duplicates” and “Trim Whitespace,” which are essential for preparing data for analysis. The course then shifts to date functions, including TODAY, NOW, DAYS, YEARFRAC, and NETWORKDAYS, enabling learners to calculate durations, workdays, and time-based metrics. Finally, learners will explore named functions—custom formulas that can be reused across spreadsheets—and how to import them from other files. By the end of the course, learners will be able to confidently apply text and date functions to clean, transform, and analyze data in Google Sheets, making their spreadsheets more dynamic, accurate, and insightful.
