Course description
AI tools have changed how professional work gets done. The professionals who use them well, who understand what AI can do, what it can't, and what responsible use looks like in practice, are the ones who build stronger client relationships, protect their organizations, and make decisions that hold up over time. This course is designed for individual contributors and working professionals who want to build those habits. Rather than introducing AI as a theoretical concept, it focuses on the real workplace decisions that come with using AI tools every day: when to use AI, what to share with it, how to verify what it produces, how to operate within organizational expectations, and how to communicate AI use honestly with the people who depend on the work. Learners will be introduced to a practical decision-making framework — the Three Filters — for evaluating any AI task before it begins. The course explores the differences between consumer and enterprise AI tools, the privacy and intellectual property risks on both the input and output sides of AI use, and the specific ways AI outputs can fail through hallucination and bias. It also addresses AI governance and policy — including what to do when formal guidance doesn't yet exist — and closes with transparency: the ethical commitment that makes responsible AI use visible to colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped to make informed, confident decisions about when and how to use AI at work — in ways that are honest, careful, and professionally sound. This course begins with a foundational overview of AI and the types of systems professionals are likely to encounter—Discriminative, Generative, and Agentic AI. From there, it explores the ethical implications of AI use in the workplace, offering clear frameworks to evaluate the accuracy, appropriateness, and trustworthiness of AI-generated content. Learners will gain insight into core issues such as data privacy, model transparency, explainability, and regulatory compliance (including CCPA and GDPR). The course also offers real-world examples of how leading organizations are addressing client concerns, mitigating bias, and responsibly communicating AI use across services. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify ethical risks, evaluate AI tools critically, and model responsible behavior—whether using AI to draft content, automate tasks, or enhance client experiences. With a focus on transparency and trust, this course empowers learners to champion ethical AI practices and contribute to a workplace culture that values fairness, security, and accountability.
