Course description

This course builds on foundational macro knowledge and introduces learners to more advanced functionality in Excel 365 through macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). It begins by demonstrating multiple methods to run macros, highlighting limitations such as the inability to undo actions and the importance of understanding macro behavior when executing across different worksheets. Learners explore how to create more flexible macros using relative referencing, allowing macros to operate from varying starting points rather than fixed cell locations. The course then guides learners through working in the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor to view, edit, and extend macro code. Through practical demonstrations, learners gain insight into the VBA environment, learn how to navigate modules, and make modifications such as removing redundant formatting instructions or adding message boxes for user feedback. Additionally, the course outlines common reasons for using macros to generate code that can be refined for more complex scenarios, like creating pivot tables or dynamic reports. Finally, learners are introduced to four key programming concepts—logic, variables, user interaction, and loops—which form the foundation for writing dynamic and efficient VBA procedures. By the end of the course, learners will have the skills to record, run, and edit macros, as well as begin exploring VBA scripting to automate complex Excel tasks.
