Course description
This course introduces learners to the fundamentals of macros in Excel 365, providing a foundation for automating repetitive tasks and improving productivity. The course begins by explaining what macros are and how they use VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) behind the scenes to automate Excel commands. Learners gain an understanding of how macros bridge the gap between manual Excel operations and VBA scripting. The course then walks through how to enable the hidden Developer tab, which unlocks a wider range of macro tools including access to the VBA environment and macro security settings. With these tools enabled, learners are guided through recording their first macro—a formatting macro applied across multiple worksheets. Key considerations are highlighted, including macro naming rules, storage locations (this workbook, new workbook, or personal macro workbook), and best practices for avoiding errors during recording. Additionally, the course explores macro security settings to help learners understand the risks and how to control macro execution in different environments. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped to create basic macros, apply them across different contexts, and understand the underlying principles of macro behavior and management in Excel. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for more advanced macro and VBA usage.
