Course description

This course shows learners how to modify, format, and enhance views in SharePoint 365 lists and libraries to better organize and display data. Learners manage existing views by editing, renaming, and deleting personal and public views, learning that personal views can be removed freely, public views may require elevated permissions, and default views can’t be deleted. The course then covers view and column formatting to improve readability and add visual cues, including alternating row styles, conditional formatting rules, and data bars to represent values visually without writing code. Participants also receive an introduction to JSON-based customization for advanced formatting, with guidance on experimenting safely and reverting to design mode when needed. Next, learners create views that display all items without recognizing folder structures, building “flat” views that ignore nested folders for easier filtering, grouping, and metadata-based organization while keeping the original folder permissions and hierarchy behind the scenes. Finally, the course explores dynamic filters that make views more personalized and self-updating by using bracketed values such as [Me] and [Today] to automatically show only a user’s items or data tied to the current date. By the end of the course, participants will be able to enhance SharePoint views with formatting and dynamic filters that transform how list and library data is presented and used across their organization.
