Course description

This course introduces the core structure and purpose of SharePoint 365, building a foundation in sites, subsites, lists, and libraries. Learners explore SharePoint as a web-based collaboration platform and secure document management system within Microsoft 365 that supports file storage, list creation, and data organization, and underpins Teams, OneDrive, and the Power Platform. The lessons explain controlled access through visitors, members, and owners, and how permission inheritance flows from top-level sites to individual files. Learners map the hierarchy of site collections, sites, and subsites, and compare libraries for storing and managing files with lists for structured data such as calendars, announcements, or records, where attachments are supported but not intended for document editing. The course highlights modern SharePoint’s move away from complex subsite structures toward connected hub sites that unify sites while keeping permissions and designs independent. Learners compare Team Sites for collaboration with Communication Sites for publishing, then follow demonstrations to create a site from templates, set a name, address, and privacy, and assign owners and members. They also see how Team Sites generate Microsoft 365 Groups to streamline communication and permissions. The course concludes by reviewing libraries, lists, site contents, and homepage customization so learners can navigate and maintain SharePoint confidently.
