Course description

This course teaches SharePoint users to create, manage, and search document libraries in SharePoint 365. Learners explore what a library is, how it differs from folders, and how libraries act as structured containers for files with metadata, views, and permissions. Demonstrations show how to create a library from the New button or Site Contents, and why short, simple names create short URLs. Examples reinforce that the library name becomes part of the URL. The course compares blank libraries with duplicated libraries, showing when duplication supports consistency across departments or projects, and stresses using descriptive display names that can change while the URL remains permanent. Learners add files by creating new Office files directly in SharePoint, uploading existing files via drag-and-drop or the Upload command, and using folders strategically for large data sets. It shows how metadata columns can replace or enhance folders for filtering, sorting, and grouping, and notes that non-Microsoft files like PDFs or Adobe documents must be uploaded. Finally, learners to use SharePoint search, which indexes file names and file text to find content even when filenames are unclear, and filter results by file type, modification date, or site location while considering how indexing impacts performance. By the end, learners can create, populate, and search libraries confidently across SharePoint 365 environments.
