Course description
This course introduces learners to advanced Power Pivot calculations in Excel 365, specifically focusing on measures and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). The course begins by differentiating between calculated columns and measures. While calculated columns operate on row-level data, measures perform aggregate calculations across entire columns. Learners observe how to create explicit measures using Excel’s AutoSum or the formula editor, leveraging DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) functions such as CALCULATE for conditional aggregations. The instructor demonstrates how to build reusable metrics—such as total sales, average profit, and regional sales totals—that automatically appear in any PivotTable or PivotChart tied to the same data model. This approach allows for consistent analysis without reconfiguring calculations in each new report. The second half of the course explores KPIs, which visualize progress toward a numerical target. The course shows how to build a KPI from a measure and define absolute or measure-based target values. Learners see how to apply status thresholds and icon indicators (e.g., check marks, warnings, or red Xs) to create interactive, visually intuitive metrics. KPIs are also reusable and appear across pivot-based reports. By the end of the course, learners will understand how to define advanced calculations using measures and visualize performance against goals using KPIs.
