Course description

Sorting, filtering, and subtotaling are essential Excel 365 tools that allow users to organize, analyze, and summarize large datasets with efficiency and clarity. Sorting enables data to be arranged in meaningful sequences, such as alphabetical, numerical, or chronological order, making it easier to identify trends and group similar values. Filtering, on the other hand, provides the flexibility to display only the records that meet specific criteria, whether that means isolating data by region, value ranges, or other conditions. This distinction between sorting and filtering is crucial, as sorting rearranges data while filtering temporarily hides information that does not meet the chosen criteria. In addition, Excel offers advanced sorting capabilities, such as multi-level sorting, where data can be ordered by multiple fields simultaneously for more precise control. Filtering tools extend beyond simple selections and include advanced text, number, and date filters. The course also introduces the Subtotal feature, which allows users to generate summaries, such as sums, averages, or counts, for groups of data within a list. By combining sorting, filtering, and subtotals, users can quickly reorganize raw information into meaningful insights and summaries. The course highlights not only how to apply these tools but also how to interpret their results, use outline controls to navigate subtotals, and manage grouped data effectively. Together, these functions equip learners with powerful methods for structuring data and creating dynamic, organized workbooks that improve decision-making and presentation.
