This course introduces SharePoint site owners to the concepts and management of site permissions—the foundation for securing access and controlling actions within SharePoint 365. Learners begin by exploring how permissions determine who can view, edit, and manage content across sites, lists, and libraries, and how inheritance simplifies access control by automatically extending permissions from the parent site to its subsites and content. The training explains when and how to break inheritance to create unique permissions for specific lists, libraries, or folders, using practical examples such as restricting confidential files to managers or allowing broader input in shared lists. Participants also learn how permissions are structured through groups, including site owners, members, and visitors, and how each group corresponds to a predefined permission level such as Read, Contribute, Edit, or Full Control. The lessons emphasize best practices for managing permissions efficiently—granting access through groups rather than individual users, maintaining at least two site owners for redundancy, and avoiding unnecessary item-level permissions that complicate security and performance.
