Course description

This course provides SharePoint site owners with the knowledge and skills to navigate and customize site settings to control functionality, appearance, and user experience. Learners begin by exploring how to access the full suite of site settings through the Site Information panel and the “View all site settings” option. The lessons explain the different categories of settings—such as Site Permissions, Look and Feel, Web Designer Galleries, and Site Administration—along with how each section contributes to managing content and site behavior. Participants learn about regional and language settings, enabling localization for time zones and language preferences, and examine how site owners can manage user alerts to monitor and remove unwanted notifications. The course then discusses Site Collection Administration, a set of powerful options available only to top-level site owners. Learners discover how to activate or deactivate site collection features to add capabilities such as Document Sets or Records Management, and how these options differ from site-level features that affect only the current site. Participants also gain insight into managing legacy features, understanding which tools remain relevant in modern SharePoint and which have been superseded by newer functionality. Moving beyond configuration, the course transitions into visual customization. Learners practice applying and changing site templates, learning how templates add pages, lists, and automation features, and why it is best to test templates on secondary sites to avoid unwanted remnants. They also explore how to customize a site’s look and feel using the “Change the look” options, selecting color themes, adjusting headers, applying organizational logos, and controlling navigation layout. Participants learn to switch between vertical and horizontal navigation, enable cascading or mega menus, and design a consistent visual identity aligned with organizational branding.
